The Executive Boards of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and VU University Amsterdam (VU) have reappointed Professor Albert Feilzer as dean of the Academic Centre for Dentistry in Amsterdam (ACTA). ACTA is a collaboration between the Dentistry faculties of the two universities. The reappointment takes effect on 1 June 2014 and is for a period of five years.
Both Executive Boards greatly appreciate Feilzer’s first term in office. President of the UvA Executive Board Louise Gunning: ‘Over the past years, Albert Feilzer has successfully directed and managed teaching, research and patient care, ACTA's three key cornerstones.’ VU President Jaap Winter added: ‘We are very pleased he is available for reappointment.’
Professor Feilzer (b. 1957) studied Dentistry at the UvA and obtained his doctorate there in 1989 for research on a topic within materials science. From 1982 to 1998 he worked part-time as a dentist in a dental practice. Since 1998, Feilzer has worked full-time at ACTA. Until 2001 he was director of Patient Care and a member of the scientific staff in the Dental Materials Science programme. In 1999 he was appointed professor by special appointment of Quality in Dental Materials, Instruments and Techniques at the UvA. In 2003 his position was changed to a full professorship in Dental Material Sciences. From 2001 to 2007 Feilzer was also professor by special appointment of Standardisation and Normalisation at the Rotterdam School of Management of Erasmus University Rotterdam.
