The University of Amsterdam’s (UvA) 2013 Annual Report has been awarded the 2014 Deloitte Kordes Award in the category education. The Kordes Award, which is named after the former president of the Court of Audit, was created in 1995 and is the leading prize for the best annual report in the public sector. This was the first time the UvA had been nominated for this award.
To the UvA, the award is an acknowledgement of the many years of incremental quality improvements that have been made to the annual accounts and documentation. Besides an improvement in readability and design (by April Design), the 2013 edition also contains a social responsibility report (MVO report) and, thanks to UvAdata, a large amount of facts and data presented in graphs and tables. In November the UvA also received the second highest score on the Ministry of Economics’ Transparency Benchmark.
An external jury assessed the annual reports on the basis of the financial accounts, the readability and operational management. The jury was comprised of Dr G.T. Budding (associate professor of Accounting, VU Amsterdam), Derk M. Windhausen RA (&Windhausen), Hans Bekkers (Binnenlands bestuur), Dr Ellen M.A. van Schoten RA (secretary of the Court of Audit) and W. Lageweg (director MVO Netherlands).
