Dr A.D.C. Jaarsma (1973) has been appointed Professor of Evidence-based Education at the University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Medicine (AMC-UvA).

Debbie Jaarsma is primarily engaged in applied educational research within the broad domain of medical education. Her current areas of interest include curricular evaluations, teacher professionalisation and lteacher career perspectives, learning within the workplace and student development, evaluation and assessment. Through her research, Jaarsma wants to assess and further improve the quality of the study programmes on offer at the AMC-UvA.

After obtaining her PhD with a dissertation entitled Developments in Veterinary Medical Education at Utrecht University, Jaarsma went on to work as an assistant professor of Quality Improvement in Veterinary Education at the same institution from 2008, where she both lead research and curriculum developments. She has published in various international peer-reviewed journals, including Medical Education, Medical Teacher and Journal of Veterinary Medical Education. Jaarsma is a reviewer for several scientific journals and a member of the editorial board for publications including Medical Teacher and Perspectives on Medical Education. As a member of the Netherlands Association for Medical Education (NVMO), Jaarsma sits on the association’s conference committee and Ethical Review Board for research on medical education and also chairs its Research on Education (Onderzoek van Onderwijs) working group. At Utrecht University, she was nominated for the 2007/2008 Teacher Talent Award. Jaarsma holds a Basic and Senior Teaching Qualification (BKO/SKO).
