Dr H. Vermeulen (1969) has been appointed Professor by special appointment of International Tax Aspects of Collective Investment Institutions at the University of Amsterdam’s (UvA) Faculty of Law. The chair is endowed by the UvA’s Amsterdam School of Real Estate (ASRE).
The research topic of the ACTL is ‘Tax sovereignty versus Globalisation'. The aim of this research project is twofold:
The new chair also seeks to promote multidisciplinary cooperation between ACTL and the UvA’s ASRE, which aims to pool research into real estate in the Netherlands.
Vermeulen has lectured in tax law at the UvA since 2007. He is chair of the Tax Law Programme Committee of the Faculty of Law, and also works for PricewaterhouseCoopers. Vermeulen is the author of Het regime voor de fiscale beleggingsinstelling (The regime for the fiscal investment institution) and co-author of Cursus Belastingrecht (Course on Tax Law) for which he wrote sections on corporation tax and formal tax law. He was secretary of the Investment Institutions Committee of the Vereniging voor Belastingwetenschap (Association for Fiscal Science) and hence one of the authors of the report Continuïteit van het Nederlandse fiscale regime voor beleggingsinstellingen door een principiële modernisering (Continuity of the Dutch fiscal regime for investment institutions by principled modernisation). Vermeulen is also the editor of a number of specialist Dutch journals. He has published numerous articles in national and international academic journals, including Bulletin for International Taxation, European Taxation and Weekblad Fiscaal Recht (Weekly Journal for Fiscal Law).
