In his research, Peters focuses on dynamic systems over the complex numbers, in particular in multiple variables. In the last five years he has played an important role in describing systems with stable long-term behaviour. In an important breakthrough in 2016, with co-authors from Toulouse and Paris, Peters demonstrated the existence of so-called wandering components, which were known not to exist in one complex variable.

Peters teaches in the field of Analysis, in both the Bachelor's and Master's programmes, at the UvA’s Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics.

As a professor, Peters will focus on applications of complex dynamic systems in statistical physics, for example in the description of phase transitions of ferromagnets based on the Ising Model or Potts Model.

About Han Peters

Peters has been affiliated with the UvA since 2009, and has been an associate professor since 2016. He previously worked as a postdoc at Stony Brook University in New York and at the University of Wisconsin. He has received various grants, including a personal NSF grant, a Reintegration Grant from the EU, and various TOP Grants from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).
