Staff and students of philosophy find each other in their friendship with and love for wisdom. Wisdom is not something you possess once and for all, but something you desire and must always strive for. At the same time, we have to conclude that philosophy is an academic discipline and part of a - at the moment - hierarchical and competitive institution. This institution encourages abuse, regularly puts the integrity of its members to the test, and secretly favours uniformity rather than diversity. Philosophy, moreover, does not have a good reputation when it comes to cultural diversity.

This is why the Philosophy department of the UvA has drawn up a code of conduct explaining the rules of conduct and guiding principles.

The department's code of conduct is complementary to the code of conduct of the University of Amsterdam, which can be downloaded below. For more information about social safety at the UvA, please visit the special website uva.nl/socialsafety.
