Kyuri, from Korea, is a Bachelor's student in Psychology.
Study programme: Psychology
Programme type: Bachelor of Science
I was looking for English-taught programmes, because I only speak Korean and English. I also wanted to study psychology and UvA offered a very good and competitive psychology programme.
So far my experience with UvA has been positive. Everything is still sort of new to me, and it’s a really big school. I did not expect to have 600 people in my lectures. It was a surprise. Sometimes it is a bit hard to get to know each other since the size of classes is huge but it has been awesome taking classes with fellow students who are from all over the world. It is truly international and it’s one of my favorite things about UvA.
The START appointment helped me a lot with getting papers and bank stuff sorted out. Besides enrolling at UvA, there are things I had to deal with, such as registering at local municipality, applying for a Dutch bank account, and so on. I would have got overwhelmed if I didn’t attended the START appointment.
It can be really stressful moving abroad, especially far away from home. In particular, finding a place to stay in Amsterdam can be extremely hard and frustrating. I want to advise new students to start preparing yourself as early as possible so that you can handle tasks one by one rather than getting swamped with things that need to be arranged.
