How to apply for accommodation?

  • When will I receive an invitation to apply for accommodation?

The Early Bird deadlines for the 2019-2020 academic year are:

    1. 7 June 2019  (September enrolment)
    2. 8 November 2019 (February enrolment)

    • Please note: if you would like to apply for accommodation later than the ‘early bird’ deadline, your chances of being offered a room are minimal. So, please remember to keep an eye on your email inbox and spam folder.
    • For those who would like to apply for a second semester start: depending on the Faculty and the programme you have applied for, you will be informed about student housing in October or at the beginning November.
  • Why do I have to pay the UvA/AUAS housing fee?

The UvA charges this fee to cover the expenses incurred in making housing available to international students. This fee is necessary to cover the extra costs of providing international students with a room instantly upon arrival.

  • If I apply for housing via the UvA, is it guaranteed that I will get a room?

    No, there is no guarantee.

Unfortunately, housing in Amsterdam is scarce. Based on last year’s registration numbers we have an accommodation available for roughly half of the incoming international UvA students, so many students have to find their own housing.

We advise you to submit your application for accommodation as soon as possible after you have received the invitation to fill out your housing application.
