One of the reasons I chose the UvA was the possibility to study in English outside of an English-speaking country. On top of that, Amsterdam is a great city to live in. It is very international and people are extremely friendly and relaxed – a great environment. Since I love learning new languages, Dutch seemed like a great challenge as well.
My programme is unique because it offers a great deal of freedom. It is possible to shape your curriculum in the way you want, which can help you in your professional career. Furthermore, I like the UvA for its multicultural students and professors, many extracurricular activities and career options. Professors here are easily approachable and very responsive to emails or any questions you might have.
Living in Amsterdam is great once you get your bike. Commuting around the city without it is expensive and time-consuming. Don't be afraid of rain when biking, it doesn't rain as often as you might think... at least not so far. It is very, very difficult to find accommodation, however the university is very useful and can help you to get accommodated with student housing agencies.
People are extremely friendly and it is never a problem to communicate in English. On top of everything Amsterdam and “Amsterdammers” will really make you feel like you’re at home. Last but not least, as mentioned above, you definitely have to have a bike to blend in – Amsterdam is not the same without it!
