    Thijmen van Alphen is a PhD student of the Department of Child Development and Education at the University of Amsterdam. 

    He studied learning science (specialization: structural equation modelling in educational sciences) at the Open University. The subject of his current doctoral research is motivation, specifically the relationship between teachers’ stress perception, resilience, future time perspective and self-regulated learning.

    Besides activities in research and teaching, he participates in the development of various digital educational tools to stimulate active and playful learning among students. These tools often employ the principles of ‘gamification’, and are used in high school setting.
