Sophie C. Boerman (PhD, University of Amsterdam, 2014) is Assistant Professor in Persuasive Communication at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR) at the University van Amsterdam.
Her research addresses empowerment and resilience in the context of persuasive and/or data-driven communication, with a focus on transparency, literacy and persuasion knowledge, and privacy.
Her work received awards from ICA, EAA, ASCoR, and SWOCC, and has been published in leading journals such as Communication Research, Journal of Communication, Computers in Human Behavior, Journal of Advertising, and Journal of Interactive Marketing.
Sophie is a member of the board of the European Advertising Academy (EAA) and of the Persuasive Communication division of the Netherlands – Flanders Communication Association (NeFCa), and coordinator for communication science in the SoBe Data Science Center (SoBe DSC).
She is also an associate editor for Journal of Interactive Advertising and serves in the editorial review board of Journal of Communication, Journal of Advertising, and International Journal of Advertising.
Since 2021, Sophie is a member of the Expert group Cosmetic Procedures, a group of different professionals with a great common denominator; an interest in cosmetic procedures and the impact they have on society. Within this group, she studies the influence of social media and influencers on people's intention to undergo cosmetic procedures.
