Prof. dr. Eugène Loos is a Professor by special apppointment for the chair Old and New Media in an Ageing Society, endowed by ANBO (the Dutch association for senior citizens), in the Department of Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam. He is also an Associate Professor at the Utrecht School of Governance (USG), Utrecht University in the Netherlands. He is a member of the Dutch research schools ASCoR (Amsterdam School of Communication Reseach) and NIG (Netherlands Institute of Government).
His research focuses on how organisations can use old and new media to enhance the social inclusion of senior citizens.
He investigates the (ir)relevance of age for: (1) senior citizens' digital information search behaviour, (2) their identification with images, (3) the impact of visual and textual signs in digital health information on their cognition and affection, (4) the use of digital (sport) games for their physical, mental and social wellbeing, and (5) intergenerational digital gaming for their participation in our society.
Insights from his studies can be used to enhance access to accessible (digital) information for senior citizens in order to guarantee their inclusion in our society.
He is co-chair of the Media Work Group of the COST Action “Ageism” isch/IS1402 (www.notoageism.com). He was part of the COST Actions 269 “User aspects of ICT”, COST 298 “Participation in the Broadband Society” (http://www.cost298.org/) and COST Action IS0906 “Transforming Audiences, Transforming Societies” (http://www.cost-transforming-audiences.eu).
