I joined the UvA in 2019 as a Lecturer in English and was appointed as Assistant Professor of World Literatures & Environmental Humanities in 2021. Prior to my time at the UvA I received my DPhil (PhD) from the University of Oxford and taught briefly in the Art History Department at the University of Birmingham (UK).

At the UvA, I co-ordinate the BA courses "Literature, Empire, and the Postcolonial World" and "Contemporary World Literature" as well as the MA course "Contemporary World Literature: Objects, Problems, Forms." I also teach on several core BA courses, including "Literature 1: Genres, Texts, Contexts" and "Literature 3: The Long-Nineteenth Century," and co-ordinate the English Faculty Guest Lecture Series.

My research establishes the emergent field of vegan theory and its intersections with animal studies, queer theory, ecocriticism, and postcolonial studies. My recent monograph, Reading Veganism: The Monstrous Vegan, 1818 to Present (Oxford University Press, 2021), establishes a trajectory of literary veganisms across two centuries of Anglophone literature, identifying the repetition of the trope of “the monstrous vegan” across the work of Mary Shelley, H. G. Wells, Margaret Atwood, J. M. Coetzee, and Alan Hollinghurst. I have published work in PMLA, Sculpture Journal, Journal of Commonwealth Literature, and Society & Animals. My ongoing work turns to the relationship between ethics and aesthetics.

From September 2021 I am the editor of The Year's Work in Critical and Culture Theory.
