Sindy Sumter is an assistant professor in the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR). Her research focuses broadly on the link between young people's digital media use and their social-emotional functioning.
Themes: Mobile dating, media representation, body image, social VR, and pro-social behavior.
During her PhD (2010, Developmental Psychology, Leiden University) she investigated normative development during adolescence in relation to social evaluative fears. She focused on the psychosocial and emotional correlates of social evaluative fears and investigated age-related changes in subjective as well as physiological responses to public speaking.
