'Lecturers are really passionate about their fields'
Chrys Silalahi - Indonesia
'I was following a double-degree programme at the University of Indonesia back home and among all the university transfer options we had , the University of Amsterdam has been my first choice from the beginning. It has an excellent reputation. In addition to that, I also loved the idea of living in the heart of Europe.'
'The programme meets my expectations in that it is interesting and offers me the opportunity to grow academically. It is very different from what I’m used to back home: it gives more independence but requires more responsibility. It is tough at times but it’ll be worthwhile in the end. It actually pushes me to work harder than I used to, which is a good thing. I like the fact that the lecturers are really passionate about their fields. Most of the tutors are great and always willing to help, I find them very responsive and obliging. I also enjoy being in an international class, as it gives you different perspectives.'
'I love studying and living in Amsterdam. It's a very vibrant city. Living here, I like how cultural and diverse Amsterdam is, there’re always new things going on. I play badminton at the University Sport Center and from time to time, I do some volunteer work at a local organisation called Serve the City Amsterdam. Besides that, I also do design and publicity materials for the Indonesian Student Community in Amsterdam. In terms of academics and career prospects, the city provides me with an international environment which will help me to grow and prepare for the job market.'
