Sign Language Linguistics (Linguistics)

After graduation

With a Bachelor’s degree in hand, you can choose to enrol in a related Master’s programme or take your first steps on the job market. A completed Bachelor's programme in Sign Language Linguistics offers a wide range of career possibilities. You may apply for jobs in the narrower field of sign language linguistics and deaf education, linguistics, but also in other positions that require a critical, independent, and analytical mind in combination with good language skills. A related Master's programme

Most students enrol in a Master’s programme to acquire broader or more specialised academic knowledge. The UvA offers over 220 one-, one and a half- and two-year Master’s programmes, many of which are taught in English. If you are looking to acquire broader or more specialised academic knowledge following your Bachelor's, apply for one of the UvA's Master's programmes.

Entry requirements

Many of our Master's programmes are subject to specific entry requirements and/or a selection procedure. In almost all cases, you will need to have completed particular courses or a specific minor programme over the course of your Bachelor's programme. Make sure that your Bachelor's schedule leaves enough room to meet the entry requirements for your Master's programme of interest.

Linguistics Master's programmes

The Faculty of Humanities offers five Master's programmes that each explore a unique facet of Linguistics. With a Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Linguistics, you might be eligible for admission to the one-year (60 EC) Master's programmes:

Students with a strong interest in research can also apply for one of our two-year Research Master's programmes (120 EC). There is a selection process for all Research Master's programmes. Admission is not guaranteed. Selection criteria include, but are not limited to: motivation, study results, your thesis, and the content of your Bachelor's programme.
