There is strong demand in society for graduates in Political Science.

Where do our graduates work?

Graduates find careers spanning the public, private, and non-profit sectors. They work for think tanks, NGOs, the media, international organizations, governmental organizations, and businesses. Alumni of the Political Theory track are currently employed as researchers, teachers, journalists, consultants, policy-makers, and analysts – including at the Bundesbank and the Korean embassy in London.

Graduates seeking a research career within academia are eligible to pursue a PhD. Recent alumni of the political theory track have successfully secured funded PhD positions at top-ranked universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, Columbia, and McGill.


Graduates of the Political Theory track are trained to analyse complex societal and political issues from a variety of perspectives, to express themselves precisely and concisely both verbally and in writing, and to think and work creatively and methodically. Armed with these crucial practical and intellectual skills, graduates are equipped to excel in a wide range of professional organizations and functions.

Career coaching during your Master's

You can make use of a wide variety of career tools and support from the UvA Student Careers Centre (SCC) during your studies. The SCC organises career events, workshops, training courses, as well as CV checks, interview practice sessions and much more.

The UvA Student Careers Centre organises several events for Bachelor's and Master's students from all disciplines. They include workshops, labour market trends, inspiring speakers, CV check, contact with employers, having a professional LinkedIn photo taken and best practises for applying to jobs.
