Business Administration: Managing Strategy and Marketing

Companies have to deal with many different stakeholders: clients, suppliers, competitors, governmental bodies and so on. How do they stay ahead of the competition? What is the best way to set up your product, price and distribution policy? In this minor you will gain insight into these kinds of strategy and marketing issues experienced by organisations.

This minor enables you to solve business issues independently. You will be encouraged to adopt a critical approach towards the many theoretical perspectives within the professional field and then apply the knowledge that you have gained to practical situations.

This minor does not provide admission to the Master’s programme in Business Administration.

Entry requirements

  • When applying for the minor, it is necessary to have successfully completed your first year (60 EC).
  • Students from a University of Applied Sciences (HBO) who finished their first-year programme (60 EC) can also be admitted.
  • No prior knowledge in Economics or Mathematics is required.
  • This minor is not open for students from UvA Economics and Business Bachelor's programme in Business Administration.

Application and Admission

At this moment you are unable to apply for the minor. The minor application opens between 30 April 10:00 AM until 2 May 12:00 PM. You will find a link to the application form on this page.

Important Dates and selection process

Due to the high demand for this minor, we make use of random selection. You can apply for this minor at any time between 30 April 2024 10:00 AM and 2 May 2024 12:00 PM. The timing of your application within this period does not affect your chances of selection.

Please note that you can only be admitted to one minor at UvA Economics and Business at a time. However, you can apply for a maximum of two minors. A potential second choice will only be taken into consideration if you are not selected for the minor you applied for first.  

What do you need to apply?

Non UvA-students

  • Sign up as an elective student (bijvak student) for the Bachelor's programme in Business Administration in Studielink with a start date of 1 September 2024. Important: You need timely enrolment and an active UvA-account, to access the application form. It is advised this before 10 May.
  • a signed and stamped transcript of your study results so far;
  • Motivation letter.

After admission: register for courses

After being admitted to the minor, you need to register for the individual courses of the minor. The course registration period for the first semester will take place on the following dates:

  • 10 June until 17 June 13:00;

All information about course registration will be included in the email you receive after you are admitted to the minor. All minor students have a guaranteed spot for a course, if you register for the courses on time.
