Worldwide, it is stressed that we need to continue learning, our lifelong. This minor offers an interdisciplinary set of courses about lifelong learning. Students gain insights from multiple scientific perspectives and learn to apply them in real world settings, thereby developing collaborative, design and consultancy skills.

Importance of the interdisciplinary orientation

People need to continue learning to be able to adapt to the rapid changes in today’s societies and economies. Fostering and supporting lifelong learning involves personal, organizational, societal and economic aspects. Understanding these different aspects and their complex interplay requires a diverse array of disciplinary approaches and theories. The multidisciplinary character of the minor will present students with approaches they will not encounter while enrolled in a monodisciplinary program and, as such, will challenge them to think across disciplinary borders and ideas.

The minor is formed around a nucleus of lecturers from psychology, economics and educational sciences, with guest lectures from other disciplines. The project course “Learning and innovating in organizations” is considered the backbone of the minor. In this course students from diverse disciplinary backgrounds work together in consultancy teams of a ‘pop-up’ consultancy firm on real questions from profit and non-profit organizations in the Amsterdam region.

Entry requirements

• You can register for the minor if you have finished the first year of your university bachelor or if you have finished the first two years (i.e., obtained 120 ECTS) of your HBO degree programme (Dutch higher vocational education). Students of all disciplines are welcome, however, some basic social scientific knowledge is required.
• All courses (except for the project “Learning and innovating in organizations”) can be followed as separate elective courses (without following the remaining courses of the minor).
• A limited number of students, 30 in total, can enroll in the project course “Learning and innovating in organizations”. These students need to follow the complete minor and register for all five courses. If necessary selection will be made based on motivation.

Enrolment

Once you have decided to enrol for this minor, you'll need to do two things. Firstly, you must apply for admission to the minor between Monday 1 April and Thursday 6 June 2024. Subsequently, you need to register for the minor courses.

• Non-UvA students:  
  Apply for the minor via the application form for non-UvA students.
