Political Ecology is a theoretical and methodological approach to the study of socio-ecological systems, focusing on conflict, power and the uneven distribution of environmental costs and benefits.

This course will introduce you to core theoretical concepts and methodological approaches used by political ecologists. You will learn to apply these to the study of urban and city environments in particular.

The themes we will focus on throughout the course include the urbanisation of nature, urban metabolism and planetary urbanisation, critical approaches to urban environmental risks, postcolonial urban political ecologies, and intersectional and embodied urban political ecologies.
