What I like so much about the Research Master’s Programme Psychology at the UvA is that you are very free to choose topics of interest and plan your own studies, have a lot of opportunities to gain experience in working with researchers and are given the chance (and encouraged) to study abroad.

I am Dutch and i did my bachelor in Clinical Developmental Psychology at the UvA. Since I started my studies, I am very interested in the development of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In the future, I would like to do research in Executive Functioning in adolescents with ASD. There has been a lot of interesting research in executive functioning and children with ADHD at the UvA and I try to keep track of all these developments by participating in research as a research assistant. Such a job is very good for obtaining experience in diagnostics, setting up a research experiment and getting to know people from the field you are interested in.

Parallel with my classes of the Research Master, I follow courses from the KLOP Master to obtain a clinical note in diagnostics so I can enter the training for clinical psychologist (GZ Psycholoog). In the future I would like to combine working in the field with research, so this combination is perfect for me. But first I will have to do a research internship which I am planning to do abroad, definitely at a university where they do interesting research in Autism. I have studied abroad before and it was one of the best experiences in my life. My clinical internship I will do in Amsterdam to enlarge my chances of a job in the clinical field.
