Ben Spatz (University of Huddersfield) in conversation with João Luís Paixão (UvA).
How has the rise of audiovisuality changed what we mean by embodiment? Who owns your audiovisual body? This conversation addresses the power of audiovisual media to control and discipline, but also to unleash and expand, embodiment as an ethical and political affordance. Examples will be drawn from Ben Spatz’s editorial and artistic research and projects, including the Judaica project’s 2017 “Embodied Laboratory for Songwork”; the “Windows into Worlds” participatory audiovisual exhibition; and the open-access, videographic Journal of Embodied Research.
With this series we seek to expand our horizons beyond the confines of the taught academic programmes and enter into conversations about current topics and debates in the field, with invited guest speakers and with faculty members, guest researchers and students of the Theatre Studies Dept. at the UvA.
