As she explains in the video in which she presents her course (which you can watch below), Johanson's course revolves around the question of how modern film and new media adaptations of Shakespeare’s work represent early modern sexualities. Students take on an active role in researching and discussing this issue and form a community of critical thinkers in her classroom. The course’s theme fits in with Johanson’s research interests: she enjoys representing and rethinking time in early modernity and in Shakespeare adaptations. She is also an active playwright in Amsterdam.
The Audience Award is a new addition to the annual Humanities Education Award. The winners of the latter were chosen by the jury – Games by Toni Pape won best Bachelor’s course and Zorgen voor het zelf (Justyna Wubs-Mrozewicz) won best Master’s course.
