Lucas de Vries, supervised by Efstratios Gavves at Informatics Institute and Henk Marquering at Amsterdam UMC, attended the Medical Imaging with Deep Learning (MIDL) conference 3-5 July 2024 in Paris, where he received the Runner-up for Best Oral Paper Award.
MIDL is one of the premiere conferences that covers a wide range of deep learning topics for medical imaging. Lucas's work focuses on developing efficient neural fields to model blood flow using CT perfusion imaging for acute ischemic stroke patients, surpassing even professional software in clinical practice. His approach enables radiologists to more accurately assess damaged brain regions.
Tika van Bennekum, a graduate of Bachelor Computer Science (Informatica), supervised by Dr. Valeria Krzhizhanovskaya, presented the results of a collaborative project of Informatics Institute and Institute of Physics at the International Conference on Computational Science on 2-4 July 2024 in Malaga (Spain).
The project investigated the ways to decrease Covid-19 infection in schools by plasma-assisted air filters. Tika developed a computational model that explained the experimental data, optimised model parameters and performed global sensitivity analysis. This research gives the potential for implementing improved air quality measures in public spaces, which could result in better air quality regulations in spaces such as schools.
