There and back again: Doing interventionist research in management acounting

The paper is a contribution to the "Handbook of Management Accounting Research" (edited by Anthony Hopwood, Chris Chapman, and Michael Shields) to be published by Elsevier this year. It presents varieties of interventionist research (Action research, Clinical studies, Design science, Constructive research) and problems attributed to it. After presenting the philosophical foundations for interventionist research a "road map" for an interventionist project is given. Some Scandinavian examples of this kind of studies are given and finally the outputs of interventionist research are highlighted.

Founder and chair for the first 7 years of the Scandinavian Academy of Management he also was the editor of the Scandinavian Jourtnal of Management 1987-2001. Member of the editorial board for journals like AOS, MAR, CPA.
