Title: "Procedures of Compensation as Regards Traffic Accident : a Limited-Dependent and Qualitative Variables Study"
Abstract: We analyse the victim's behaviour determining factors in proposing a simultaneous explanation of the value of the compensation and the choice of the regimes. We are interested about victims of damages body as regards traffic accidents in France. We consider that there are two options available to each victim. Thus each victim faces two compensations: the compromise and judicial compensation. And yet, we never observe both of the results of the two options. The observed compensation depends on the choice of the procedure. Therefore, we are in the presence of a selectivty bias which produces incosistent estimates of the parameters. The model is a variant of simultaneous equations models with qualitative binary variable and limited dependent variables.
It enables us to answer two questions once purged of selectivity bias.
"Which are the key determinants which influence the decision of a victim to resort to judicial or respectively to accept the offer suggested by the insurer at the time of the settlement ?" and "Conditionally on the procedure, which are the key factors which determine the amount of comepnsation?"
The seminar will take place in A-building, see below for the address.
