The UvA's Amsterdam Business School (ABS), in cooperation with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), have launched an initiative that will offer continuing professional education (CPE) to financial professionals. The initiative, named the Executive Academy, will start in September 2010.

Within the Academy, the UvA's academic knowledge will be combined with the practical expertise at PwC. The collaboration between UvA lecturers and practicing financial professionals will enhance the quality of the CPE for professionals in the professions of Registered Accountant, Registered Controller, Registered Internal Auditor and Registered EDP Auditor.

In addition to the abovementioned groups, the Executive Academy will also focus on financial directors, internal accountants and other financial experts who are interested in continued professional development. The initiative stems from the university's and the Amsterdam Business School's wish to introduce more practice-based cases in the seminars offered to FEB alumni. At the same time, PwC wanted to strengthen the academic foundation of the courses and seminars it offers.

Programmes offered at the Executive Academy

The Executive Academy offers two types of programmes. The Theme Programme involves discussions on current subjects taken from academic works and from practice. In the Professional Update Programme, expertise is brought up to date, sometimes supplemented with an e-learning module.

PricewaterhouseCoopers partner Bart Koolstra: ‘Using actual, current cases, for example, the organisiation of financial positions, taxation and treasury, and linking this with academic knowledge, a unique platform is created for professionals who want to keep abreast of the latest developments in their profession. The programme will also focus on issues such as fraud prevention, ethics and corporate governance.'
