Van Bilsen’s expertise on the Dutch transition to a new pension system offered a key international perspective at the event (page in Portuguese). His presentation was translated live into Portuguese so that participants could closely follow and discuss the Dutch experience.

Servaas van Bilsen's expertise can be applied in the wider context of international pension reform. He is Associate Professor of Actuarial Science and Mathematical Finance at the Amsterdam School of Economics (ASE) and researcher at NETSPAR. His research focuses on pension systems, life-cycle investment strategies and the decumulation phase of pension plans. He has published on intergenerational transfers, the solidarity reserve and the transition from Defined Benefit (DB) to Defined Contribution (DC) pension schemes.

His work has appeared in leading academic journals such as Review of Finance, Journal of Pension Economics and Finance and Insurance: Mathematics & Economics. In addition to his research, Van Bilsen teaches courses on pension finance and life-cycle investing at the University of Amsterdam and Tilburg University.
