Majors and Minors

As part of most Master’s programmes at the UvA Faculty of Science, you can choose to partake in a major or minor. These are predefined sets of courses aimed at learning skills in addition to the academic and research skills which the regular Master’s programmes already focus upon.

You will partake in the programme of your chosen scientific discipline during the first year, and a major (60 EC) or minor (30 EC) during the second year. If you decide to partake in the major teaching, you will attain an additional education degree, qualifying you to teach senior-secondary pupils (‘eerstegraads lesbevoegdheid’) in the Netherlands.

Overview programmes

Not all programmes allow partaking in a major or minor during their course. This table describes whether this possibility is offered.
