During the press conference on Friday, 13 August, the government announced that the 1.5-metre distancing rule will be dropped at higher education institutions from September. The UvA is looking forward to a new academic year in which education can once again take place on the campuses; on-campus education is indispensable to the quality of education and the well-being of our students.

Among other things, a maximum of 75 students per lecture room will apply. This will have a major impact on the organisation of education and the timetables, and will require a great deal of logistical effort. This work will start on Monday.

We understand that, in addition to a feeling of relief for many, there are also concerns among students, lecturers and other staff. In the coming weeks, we will be working hard to organise education in the best and safest manner from September.

Like our fellow universities and colleges, we underline the importance of vaccinations and support the VSNU campaign ‘Ga je studeren? Laat je vaccineren!’ ('Off to university? Get vaccinated!’)

Students and staff will be further informed in the coming weeks on the UvA website, in newsletters and through their degree programmes.
