Members of the UvA community were represented on 14 November in de Rode Hoed, which ensured lively discussions. Three keynote speakers provided a view on the role of universities, from various perspectives. Veronique Perdereau (Vice President Europe, Sorbonne Paris) spoke about the importance of striving for societal impact, especially in times of digitization. Claes de Vreese (FMG UvA) illustrated how key social sciences and humanities are to finding solutions for the problems we face in the world right now. And Michael Arthur (President University College London) challenged us to really choose and to think further ahead than 2026 as we develop our strategy.

What happens now?

The results from the conference, the round table meetings, and discussions with deans and councils will be used as contributions to a short document in which we outline the key points for the new strategic plan. These key points will then be developed into a draft plan.
