Over the past four years, De Graaf and her team have given shape to the university’s diversity policy, instituted important initiatives and established collaborations to make the UvA a better learning and working environment. There are now Faculty Diversity Officers in every faculty, and the Diversity Memorandum was also drafted during De Graaf’s term.

De Graaf: ‘It has been a privilege to work with so many people who have committed themselves to the transition to a more equal, diverse and inclusive university. I have enjoyed working intensively with staff and students at the UvA, and with external partners at other Dutch universities and (government) institutions. We're not there yet, but important milestones have been reached. There is a solid foundation and an engaged and talented group of dedicated people. This is a good moment for me to step back and let someone else take this important work to the next level.’

De Graaf was reappointed for a second term a year ago. Geert ten Dam, president of the UvA: ‘Over the past four years, Anne and her committed team have achieved great things. For the UvA, diversity and inclusion remain a priority.’

The position profile and the procedure for finding a successor will now be shaped in consultation with the faculties and the representative advisory bodies.
