Krisztina Kiss (Hungary) - Control
'If I have to highlight one thing I would say it is the practical approach. It is really useful to read about real issues that make us think about resolving situations. And as teamwork is essential in every company, I also like that the programme is focused on sharing knowledge and searching for compromises with fellow students.
Leaving your comfort zone
I decided to come back to my home country, Hungary and apply what I studied at UvA. I got a position in the multinational company General Electric as a GL accountant in a very short time. My daily work includes performing quarter-close for different entities in Europe and the Middle East and staying in touch with controllership. When I was on the job interview, my future manager pointed out my MSc degree and said that this is what they were looking for – going to another country, getting to know a new culture, students, approaches eventually means leaving your comfort zone and that is the point where people can make something different, something innovative.
I would highly recommend this programme to those who are interested in accountancy or control not only because of the excellent reputation and ranking of the university but also because of the international atmosphere, fellow students, professors and the city of Amsterdam.'
