The three nominees for Actuarial Talent of the Year 2019 have been announced by the Actuarial Podium. All three are alumni of the Amsterdam Executive Master in Actuarial Science (AEMAS). The nominees are Stephan van Stalborch, Timo van der Veen en Linda Vos. The winner will be announced on 26 September.

Stephan van Stalborch (1989)

Stephan van Stalborch is senior policy officer and actuary at the Pension Policy department of the Ministry of Social Affairs. He was also involved in the realisation of the Pension Agreement. He completed his Intensive Master Actuarial Science at the UvA in 2015. Van Stalborch regularly teaches at the UvA and supervises theses. He is also active in the Royal Dutch Actuarial Association.

Timo van der Veen (1991)

Timo van der Veen completed the Master’s in Actuarial Science in 2016. Following an intensive period as a consultant with various insurers, he chose to become an entrepreneur and launched Whayle. Van der Veen feels that actuaries should be more focused on providing service to the business by being more involved in resolving issues in practice. Van der Veen shares his vision by speaking at conferences and his activites with the Royal Dutch Actuarial Association. He also publishes articles and provides training at Whayle.

Linda Vos

Linda Vos completed the AEMAS in 2014 and became an Actuarial Association actuary. Since starting her career at PwC in 2012, she has been occupied with the a wide range of activities in practicing her profession, both in the insurance sector and outside of this industry. Much of her work has societal relevance. For example, Linda worked on a forecasting model for the effectiveness of various medicines neurologists prescribed to MS patients in Switzerland for a period of two-and-a-half years. The model and the study turned out to be a breakthrough in the healthcare sector and it has been applied to many more treatments.

About the Actuarial Talent of the Year award

The award was established in 2015 by the Actuarial Podium, and is aimed at recognising actuarial talents under the age of 35. Visibility and the vision of the nominee are important aspects in choosing the winner. During Actuary Day on 26 September, the nominees will introduce themselves to the public and the presentation of the award will take place immediately afterwards.
