The yearly AISSR Harvest Day showcases our new research results – and it is now time to hear about the research of our PhD students during our Early Harvest Day! All PhD students of the AISSR are invited to present their research. The winner will record a research video.

Detail Summary
Date 12 September 2019
Time 13:00 - 17:00
Location Roeterseilandcampus - building I (CREA)

First, AISSR PhDs can sign up to follow a training to learn more about pitching and to practice. Second, there will be an event in CREA, open to all UvA staff, to hear all the pitches per discipline. Of course, a winner will be chosen!

Tuesday 10 September: The Art of Pitching

From 10.00-13.00 you will hear all ins and outs about how to pitch your research as well as practice, together with a certified trainer and your PhD-colleagues. The workshop is followed by lunch. After lunch, you will receive some information about the Thursday session.

There is only limited space, so please sign up for the workshop by sending an email to aissr@uva.nl. We will send you the location upon registering.

Thursday 12 September: Early Harvest Day
The event takes place at CREA. All AISSR PhDs can sign up to give a short pitch about their research and (preliminary) results. What are they researching and why is it so important? All PhDs will have 3 minutes. The pitches will take place per discipline (anthropology, sociology, political science and GPIO). After all pitches by discipline, there will be some space for questions and comments by the audience. A jury will decide on the winner, who will make a video, supported by the AISSR bureau and a professional filmmaker, about his or her research for the AISSR YouTube channel (and own purposes).

The jury is composed as follows:

Mr prof. dr. W.G.J. (Jan Willem) Duyvendak

Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences

Programme group: Political Sociology: Power, Place and Difference

Mr dr. C. (Cody) Hochstenbach

Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences

GPIO : Urban Geographies

Ms prof. dr. R. (Ria) Reis

Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences

Programme group: Anthropology of Health, Care and the Body

Ms dr. A.A. (Abbey) Steele

Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences

Programme group: Political Economy and Transnational Governance

Do you want to do a pitch during the event? This is only open for AISSR PhDs, of all disciplines. Please let us know by sending an email to aissr@uva.nl. We expect you to follow the training on Tuesday the 10th of September but this is not mandatory. If needed, due to limitations of time, the AISSR bureau will make a selection of participants that can pitch their research, based on topics, gender, and stage of the PhD (as it is Harvest Day we prefer those PhDs that are close to completion).

All UvA staff and interested parties are invited to attend, please register below or send us an email at aissr@uva.nl.
