The first Dutch national open access agreement with a publisher was in 2014 with Springer. Now for every new agreement with a publisher, besides reading rights to their journals, also settlement of open access publications for researchers in those journals are part of the agreement. This is why also UvA researcher scan publish today without any additional costs in thousands of journals of more than fifteen academic publishers. The agreements are negotiated by the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU) in cooperation with the Dutch Consortium of Academic Libraries (UKB).

Also in 2020 some new agreements are in place with publisher, for example with BMJ, IOP and the Royal Society of Chemistry. Some other were renewed, e.g. with Elsevier, Brill, Cambridge University Press, Walter de Gruyter, SAGE and Wiley. All with an extended amount of journals partaking in the agreement. Besides the national agreements, the Library also has some local discount agreements with publishers.
