From that date, the museum will be accessible from the familiar main entrance on Oude Turfmarkt 127 again, following the restoration of the large, old entrance doors.
The building section near Turfdraagsterpad will then be expanded during the next renovation phase, which is expected to last until March 2020. This will involve construction of a steel framework, for which the necessary components are set to be delivered through the end of week 48. Turfdraagsterpad will be closed for parts of the day during this period so that the materials can be hoisted in. The contractor will also be using the main entrance during this time.
The Allard Pierson is the museum and knowledge institution that houses the University of Amsterdam's heritage collections. Time to celebrate! Although the renovation is still far from finished, the museum's monumental doors are set to open to the public again on Sunday 20 October. That calls for a celebration. Visit the Allard Pierson Museum free of charge on Sunday 20 October between 13:00 and 17:00. Meet the Egyptian dwarf god Bes at the special family exhibit on display from 18 October, discover the history of the former Nederlandsche Bank building or take a trip through ancient Greece and Rome. Listen to stories about the city during the Creative City presentation hosted by our curators, or put excavated shards back together at the ArcheoHotspot. Kids can enjoy a museum colouring page and free lemonade. There are plenty of reasons to drop by!
