We address the challenges higher education faces: How to serve a growing and diverse student population effectively? How to address societal expectations, and adapt to the digitisation of higher education?
The project studies effectiveness, flexibility, fairness, diversity, and inclusion in higher education.
Key research themes include individual differences in learning, course design, and assessment.
The research will utilise a mixed-methods approach, combining insights from educational sciences, psychology, economics, sociology, and, importantly, AI and data science.

An important aim is to establish the Amsterdam Interdisciplinary Centre for Higher Education Research (AICHER) to ensure long-term impact and promote to team science and open science principles. The centre will facilitate knowledge dissemination in collaboration with the UvA’s Teaching and Learning Centers and policymakers within the UvA and beyond.
The RPA will fund PhD and postdoc positions, workshops, community-building activities, and facilitation of access to the UvA’s educational data for research purposes.
