The Job Market

After completing the Master's programme you will have gained insight into a wide variety of religious phenomena from different time periods within Europe and have acquired the ability and skills to analyse them. Graduates of the programme are perfectly suited to careers in:

  • Positions in government institutions at various levels, both national and international, aimed at policy development and information. These could include ministries of domestic affairs, foreign affairs, law and foreign aid, municipal government, migration policies, religious diversity and minority policies.
  • Positions in non-governmental organisations in the fields of policy development, foreign affairs, expert information, aid, mediation.
  • Journalism and media
  • Education and teaching, particularly in the case of religion and social disciplines, as well as policy development in an educational setting.

An academic career

Graduates who wish to pursue a PhD in the field of Islamic studies can also opt to continue their studies in the Research Master's programme Religious Studies. Students who have completed one of the one-year programmes of the Master's in Theology and Religious Studies are usually able to complete the two-year Research Master's programme in one year. Due to the limited number of places available in the research programme, all applicants must undergo a selection procedure.
