I define myself as an Interdisciplinary Identity Psychologist. In my work, I use qualitative and quantitative methodologies to explore the complexities of identity from organizational, (cross-)cultural, social, and developmental psychological perspectives. First, I examine identity primarily in non-Western contexts, cultures, and groups, though Western contexts are not outside my purview. Second, I examine how identity relates to inclusion, diversity, and general psychosocial functioning across cultures and contexts (e.g., organizations, society) and at different points during the lifespan (e.g., adolescents, emerging adulthood, employment). Finally, I seek to apply my research on inclusion in real-world contexts, broader society, and organizations. Dealing with diversity and intercultural interventions, I believe that simply focusing on reducing discrimination through policies and procedures is not enough. We need to seek ways to promote active inclusion.

I completed my Master's degree in Industrial (Work and Organizational) Psychology at the University of Johannesburg in South Africa and a Ph.D. in Cross-cultural Psychology at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. Apart from being an Assistant Professor in Work and Organizational Psychology at the University of Amsterdam, I am also a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management at the University of Johannesburg in South Africa and a Visiting Professor at the Department of Work, Organization, and Society at Ghent University in Belgium. In addition, I am currently the president-elect for the Society for the Study of Emerging Adulthood (SSEA) and a board member of the Committee Culture and Diversity of the Dutch Institute for Psychologists (NIP).
