Anneke Dekker works as a photographer and videographer for the Archaeology Department

Trained as an academic archaeologist and professional photographer I build upon extensive experience in the field of object photography, collection photography, site photography, legacy photography, and short movies and clips for museum exhibitions and academic educational settings including web lectures.

My interest in portrait photography has developed towards the moving image. As co-initiator of the DocDoc Foundation I make and release short film portraits with high societal relevance and urgency. Our most recent film Batuta (2018) has been selected for the NPO2 Extra Series Makers van Morgen. Documentary film is for me a dynamic alternative to photography as it creates an opportunity to mediate between an unknowledgeable audience and portrayed humans who are trying to find their way in today’s complex society.

The combination of visual translation and in-depth contact with humans portrayed makes documentary film a valuable medium for any field of knowledge transfer with a human interest aspect. A recent project for the Allard Pierson Museum in relation to an exhibition is a case in point, see below. Enjoy!
