'I chose European-Law as a major because it was one of my favourite courses in the first year and I found it very interesting to learn how the EU uses law.'
Suzanne van Willigen

Suzanne van Willigen is a second year Bachelor's in European Studies student. Specialising in European Law, Suzanne tells us about about the programme and her choice of major.

I grew up and still live in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. I chose the European Studies programme at the University of Amsterdam, because I heard good things about it. Moreover, I liked the fact that it had a wide variety of courses to offer, including a language course.

I expected to learn a lot about the European Union and its history, and I also expected to learn a lot from other international students. The strong points of the programme are definitely its international focus and the variety of courses on offer. I chose European-Law as a major because it was one of my favourite courses in the first year and I found it very interesting to learn how the EU uses law.

I chose Spanish as a language because it has become an important language that is spoken worldwide by a large amount of people. Moreover, I have always loved the culture. In fact, I hope to be studying abroad for a semester in Spain next year.
