'Living in this melting pot of cultures and backgrounds is certainly empowering, as it gives me first-hand knowledge on the many topics that interest me.'
The reputation of the university in the field of Politics and International Relations first drew my attention here. The University of Amsterdam allows you to take modules in other faculties so you can discover other areas of study that may not necessarily be linked to your main subject. The idea of attending university in a city like Amsterdam was also appealing. Living in this melting pot of cultures and backgrounds is certainly empowering, as it gives me first-hand knowledge on the many topics that interest me.
The first year is an introduction to the many sub-fields within Political Science and I find it enjoyable to learn about very different topics. The professors are passionate about their teaching and they are also very experienced, authentic leaders in their fields. I am interested in international studies, diplomacy, journalism, and history; and I am glad that this programme allows me to tailor my future towards a career in these areas of knowledge.
Next year I will choose to specialize in International Relations and possibly during my third year follow a minor or a semester abroad. Political Science itself opens the doors for many disciplines and career choices. I have always been quite multidisciplinary, and so I will try and add some courses on literature and linguistics to my curriculum. Being able to absorb knowledge from the different disciplines that impassion me is truly an opportunity.
