What does the study programme look like?
The first year is of the Master’s Computational Science is dedicated to core Computational Science courses covering computing & algorithms, modelling & simulation, massive-data processing and multidisciplinary collaboration. The second year is dedicated to elective courses and the Master's project.

What is a joint degree?
The University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam have joined forces in the Computational Science Master’s programme. As a student you will benefit from expertise, networks and research projects at both universities and affiliated research institutes. Upon completion of the programme you will receive a joint degree certificate.

What are the entry requirements for this Master’s programme?
The entry requirements and the application procedure for this Master’s programme depend on whether you have completed your prior education in the Netherlands or abroad.

I don't meet the entry requirements. Can I do a pre-Master's programme?
If the Admissions Board has decided that you don't meet the admissions requirements for the Master's programme, Dutch-speaking students can enrol in the Minor Computational Science (30 EC) at the UvA. This minor programme is the pre-Master's programme and will train you in mathematics and programming in preparation for the Master's programme.

Can I study this programme in part-time?
The Master's programme Computational Science is a full-time programme and does not offer a part-time programme.

Can I start this Master's programme in February?
No, all students in the Master's programme Computational Science start in September. We don't offer the option to start in February.

How do I apply for this Master’s programme and when is the deadline?
The application process and the deadline depend on whether you have completed your prior education in the Netherlands or abroad. We strongly recommend to start the application procedure at least a week before the deadline. Getting all your documents ready and going through the process will take several days.
Please note that applications received after the deadline will not be considered for admission.

Can I enrol in a second Master's programme, next to Computational Science?
