Careers

Graduates in International Development Studies originate from all over the world and find their way to interesting careers, whether in the Netherlands or abroad.

Where do our graduates work?

Our graduates have found jobs in various fields like:

  • Government / EU
  • International organisations
  • NGO's
  • PhD positions
  • Own / freelance jobs
The discussions we had were incredibly relevant, not only for me and my peers, but also to shape the future of the field

Alumna Agnes Lidbrink-Ekman explains why she chose to apply to International Development Studies and how she came to work at the Swedish NGO RFSU.

Skills

The programme provides students with both academic and professional skills. Academically, students will be equipped with knowledge about key development theories, issues and approaches. They will learn  to discuss and debate them, to think critically about them, to place them in multi-scalar contexts and to seek ways of moving them beyond them to make new contributions to the field. Also they gain soft skils like collaborating with peers, presentation skills, working in an international setting.

Career coaching during your Master’s

The career advisers at the UvA Student Careers Centre can help students with information, workshops and individual vocational counselling to find out what you want, get insight into your capabilities and competencies, make choices and improve your application skills in order to achieve your goals.
