I took electives, extra-curricular courses, a minor, or courses abroad
If you have passed additional courses alongside your mandatory courses, you may have get approval from the Board of Examiners to include these courses on your degree certificate. Below you will find the various options, including a link to more information on how to request permission from the Board of Examiners
- Electives: For some of the free-choice electives you will need to request permission (i.e. part of your vrije keuzeruimte);
- Extra-curricular courses: You always need to request permission for courses that are not part of your study programme;
- Minor: To include a UvA minor in your study programme, you do not have to request permission. To include a non-UvA minor, you will always need to file a request;
- Courses obtained during a semester abroad: You always have to request permission to include courses obtained abroad. After approval of these courses, you have to submit an original transcript from your exchange university to the Education Desk. Request your exchange transcript as soon as possible after completing all of your exchange courses, since the transcript date can affect your graduation date.
Please note: you can already request your degree certificate while you are waiting for a decision from the Board of Examiners.

I want to check whether my results are still valid

You can submit a request to the Board of Examiners to extend the validity of the courses provided that the content of the courses has not changed and the courses are still part of the curriculum.

When do I file a request for my degree certificate?
You can submit a request for your degree certificate in the month:
- in which you take your final exam; or
- of your final thesis deadline (as stated in the Course Catalogue).
If your last grade has not yet been registered in SIS, or you're waiting on a decision on a objection or appeal, you can still file a request for your degree certificate. This will allow us to already start the process of checking whether you meet all the other requirements. Once your grade(s) has/have been registered in SIS, we will quickly be able to complete processing your request for your degree certificate.
Please note that to file a request for your degree certificate you need to be enrolled for your degree programme in Studielink.
-
How do I file a request for my degree certificate?
Request your degree certificate online. (Please note: DO NOT request your degree certificate via SIS).
We will respond to your request within 10 working days. Keep in mind that the response time during the busy summer period can be longer (15 working days). Even though you can already file a request before, we can only confirm your eligibility to graduate once all your results are registered in SIS.
-
What will be my graduation date?
The graduation date is scheduled as the final working day of the month in which you filed your request for your degree certificate. However, the first possible graduation date is the final working day of the month in which you have obtained your final result.
-
Can I graduate with distinction (cum laude) or with honours?
The cum laude provisions are part of the Rules and Guidelines of the Board of Examiners. You can find the requirements for graduating with distinction (cum laude) on the cum laude page.
Did you participate in the honours programme? Then you could potentially add the honours programme to your study programme. On Honours programme, you will find the requirements for including the honours programme on your degree certificate.

I have passed all of my courses, but I am planning on doing an internship or going on exchange
If you have passed all your courses but still want to do an internship or go on exchange, then you have to remain registered as a student. This means you should only file a request for your degree certificate once you have obtained your final grade from your exchange university or when you have completed your internship.

I have requested my degree certificate and want to terminate my enrolment in Studielink
Did you file your request for your degree certificate before or in May?
Have you filed a request for your degree certificate and submitted your thesis or taken your last exam? Then you can terminate your enrolment in Studielink. Indicate ‘graduation’ as your reason for termination. This ensures that if your final result is unexpectedly insufficient, your enrolment will not be terminated, thereby allowing you to resit the final exam. If you terminate your enrolment in Studielink before or in May, the tuition fees for the remaining months might be refunded. More information on this topic and other related issues, can be found on Termination of enrolment.
Did you file a request for your degree certificate in June, July or August?
In that case you cannot terminate your enrolment in Studielink. Your enrolment will be terminated automatically at the end of the academic year (31 August). You will not be refunded any tuition fees, since the tuition fees are divided over the first 10 months of the academic year.
More information on this topic and other related issues can be found on Termination of enrolment.
