Teaching at the UvA is funded principally by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, and by tuition fees. Like other universities in the Netherlands, the UvA also receives what are known as ‘study advance funds.’

Universities use these funds to fulfil the ‘2019-2024 Higher Education Quality Agreements’, which were made between the universities and the ministry with the aim of bringing innovation to education.

Among other things, the UvA uses its study advance funds to:

  • improve and intensify contact between students and lecturers
  • fund professional development opportunities for lecturers
  • set up Teaching & Learning Centres (TLCs)
