Disability or chronic illness

If you have a disability or chronic condition, the UvA can provide extra support.

The UvA adopts the definition of students with a disability that is usual in the Netherlands and which is used by the Dutch Inspectorate of Education (2010). Students with a disability implies ‘both students with physical disabilities and chronic illness as well as students with mental disabilities and dyslexia’.

Studying without barriers

A disability or chronic illness need not prevent you from getting a degree or finding a job. However, in some cases modifications may be necessary to allow you to successfully complete the programme. The UvA offers guidance and support to students who, because of a disability or chronic illness, need help in completing their studies.

Contact a Student counsellor

It is recommended to contact a Student counsellor well before the start of the new academic year. He or she can tell you more about possibilities at the UvA for students with a disability or chronic illness, which will help in making a good choice of study programme.

Student counsellors are available for a telephone appointment:

  • Tuesday to Friday, from 9:00 to 10:00
  • T: +31 (0)20 525 8080

More information about studying with a disability can be found on the student site.
