Master Psychology: Development and Health Psychology (track)
Similar questions can be asked for binge drinking, problematic use of drugs, and activities that started out as innocent fun, such as gaming, but that have become addictive. Further, overweight and obesity, even in young children, is one of the most important health problems in the western world with an enormous socio-economic impact. What can we do about that?
Another important topic for health is the role of stress in the development of these behaviors, as stress is widely acknowledged as one of the key contributors in developing addictive behaviors, and obesity. Also, stress is related to dropout of work and decreases in general well-being.
More generally, how can unhealthy behaviors be prevented or countered in an effective way? For instance, research had demonstrated that relatively automatic and sometimes unconscious processes play an important role in health behaviors. How can we effectively change those processes?
To thoroughly address these questions, the Department of Developmental Psychology offers an English-speaking Master’s program on Development and Health starting in September 2017. We invite enthusiastic and talented national and international students with interest in health, intervention and prevention to apply for this selective one-year master.
