The minor provides an introduction to the most important aspects of conservation and restoration of cultural heritage objects.

Introduction to the discipline and profession

This module examines changing theories and approaches towards conservation and restoration within a historical framework and considers the importance of ethics in modern conservation theory and practice. In addition, the module aims to illuminate some of the inherent complexities encountered by professionals working in this strongly interdisciplinary field.

Specialisations in Conservation and Restoration

This module is an introduction to the various specialisations in the field of conservation, illuminating materials and techniques that are specific for each specialisation, including degradation phenomena and particular challenges. Many different cases will be discussed to obtain a broad perspective on the different specialisations, offered during the master’s programme and post-master's programme.
